Frequently Asked Questions

Are flights included in the price of your overseas tours?

No. To enable you to get the best deals on flights and to give you flexibility over flight times and departure airports, we do not provide flights. However, if required we can provide advice on best travel routes from your home. A Wildtracks tour leader will meet you on arrival at our destination airport.

When do I have to pay the deposit for my holiday and the balance?

A deposit of £200 per person is payable at the time of booking with the balance due two months before our date of departure (we will send you a reminder). Your booking will not be confirmed until we have received and verified your payment. For bookings made within 3 months of departure we request full payment at the time of booking. For information on cancellations and refunds please see our Terms and Conditions.

Why do you charge more for single rooms?

Firstly, solo travellers are most welcome. We keep our numbers low so everyone feels part of the group. Most of the hotels and guest houses that we use charge by the room, regardless of the number of occupants so unless the hotel has single occupancy rooms we have to make a supplementary charge. However, if you are a solo traveller and are prepared to share a room with another guest (of the same sex) we will try and accommodate your request.

How luxurious is the accommodation that you use?

Wildlife watching doesn’t have to mean ‘roughing it’ and we try to use high class, comfortable accommodation wherever we can. In cities we generally use 4* or 5* hotels, whilst in remote areas we use guest houses which may be more simply furnished but which are always clean and comfortable and often have the advantage of being within or close to the wilderness areas that we visit. If on occasion our accommodation is “a little different”, e.g. spending a night in a bear-watching hide, we will always try and provide more luxurious accommodation the following night.

How large are the groups on Wildtracks tours?

A key element of our company policy is to only take small parties, generally between 6 and 9, plus our tour guides. This means we gel quickly as a group, cause minimum disturbance to wildlife, create no damage to delicate habitats and can stay in smaller more interesting guest houses with local hosts. Our overseas tours generally have two tour guides, which is a very high ratio for these types of tours, giving you a much more personal service than other companies are able to provide.

Do I need to be a good naturalist to go on a Wildtracks tour?

No, you just need to enjoy being out of doors. Our tour guides are all experienced at dealing with guests with a wide knowledge range so there will be something of interest for everyone. Most of our tours are designed to provide a range of wildlife experiences which might include mammal watching, birding, plant or insect hunting or visiting places of cultural interest.

Will I see everything described in your Itineraries?

Hopefully, but there are no promises! Wildlife can be very fickle in terms of guaranteed sightings and can be influenced by the weather or the earliness or lateness of the season. However what we can guarantee is that our destinations and timings will present the best opportunity for seeing our target species.

How far will we walk each day?

The degree of difficulty of each of our tours is described in the downloadable Tour Itinerary. This will indicate not only how far we are likely to walk each day but also difficult of the terrain. Generally though, because our main aim is to be watching wildlife, we do not travel great distances and our pace is very leisurely.
